Abstract
In this paper, the problem of sound radiated by a vibrating baffled drum, that is, a membrane (backed by an enclosure) set in a rigid plane has been solved. The directional characteristics and the power output of sound radiated by the drum are investigated. The effect of air backing upon the radiation characteristics is explained. The cases for the baffle of finite and of infinite extent and when a coupling acts between the sound field and the membrane are discussed.
