Abstract

The units of acoustics are not yet defined in the SI system. For the subjective units phon, sone, mel and Bark this is not a serious matter since they are only rarely used together with physical quantities. However it is different in the case of dB and dB (A). If a physical unit of 1 is defined as the symbolic quality for the basic units of dimensionless quantities we can specify 1 Np ∈ 1 and 1 dB = [(In 10)/20] Np ≍ 0.115 Np as the connecting links with SI.
