Abstract
Acoustical properties of thin porous plates vibrating in a fluid are investigated theoretically. The wave equations for the porous plate and for the fluid layer within the porous plate are derived by taking account of the interactive effects between the solid frame of the porous material and the surrounding fluid. Derived equations of motion for both cases are represented in simplified forms containing only the sound pressures and the particle velocities at both side surfaces just outside the porous plate.Using the above mentioned results, we make some numerical calculations on the sound absorbing characteristics of the porous plate located near a rigid wall and discussed the coupling effects between the motions of the plate and of the fluid layer.
