Abstract
Solvent extraction using a solvent coated bubble (air assisted solvent extraction) is introduced. Coating of a bubble with an organic solvent consisting of 3 v/v% (di-(2-ethylhexyl)-phosphoric acid) DEHPA in kerosene is shown to be thermodynamically favourable and is demonstrated experimentally. Aset up to generate a single stream of solvent coated bubbles is described. Trials to extract copper (Cu++) from acidified copper sulphate solution illustrate the concept.
