Abstract

This article examines, through a process of self-reflection, the action of research as a product both of its context and the biography of the researcher. Further education has been identified as a hostile field for such research activity. This hostility stemming in part from the history of the sector, reinforced by current funding policies which preclude encouragement for the undertaking of research by practitioners within the sector.
