Abstract
The circumstances are noted which led to the proposal to create an online package of science information for access by anybody in Scotland with membership of a public, academic or school library in Scotland. The process of identifying a package from commercial sources is discussed and proposals for its funding indicated. The barriers and problems in progressing this initiative are discussed as are the potential benefits to Scotland as a whole.
