Abstract

The radioemission of the historical supernova remnants 1572 (Tycho) and 1604 (Kepler) and the evolution of their luminosities are considered. The dates of the secular rate of decrease in luminosity, obtained by the present authors earlier, were correct with respect to the time variation on the flux densities of the same sources, which were used as calibrators. Thus at 1667 MHz, the luminosity of supernova remnant (SNR) 1604 is weakening at an annual mean rate of (0.2 ± 0.07)%. The corresponding rate for SNR 1572 is equal to (0.47 ± 0.05)%. The evolution of the radioluminosity of SNR 1604 and the energy density of the magnetic field and relativistic electrons in the remnant essentially distinguish it from SNR 1572. Therefore these remnants should belong to different types of supernova. In 1987, Bandiera classified supernova (SN) 1604 as type SNIb or SNII.
