Abstract

Measurements of the relative intensities of O ( J ) and S ( J ) lines in the vibrational Raman spectra of H 2 , D 2 and N 2 are reported. Using the numerical procedures and anharmonic constants presented in Part I, values are obtained for ratios of derivatives of the polarizability anisotropies γ =  ∥ -  ⊥ . For H 2 and D 2 , and For N 2 , γ 1 /γ 0 = 2·63 ± 0·29. The value of γ 1 /γ 0 for molecular hydrogen is in agreement with that obtained by Asawaroengchai and Rosenblatt.
