Abstract

The reaction of Co(II) or Zn(II) acetate salt, 5-(4-carboxy-2-nitrophenoxy) isophthalic acid (H3cnpi) in the presence of N-containing molecules produces three new coordination polymers: [Zn(Hcnpi)(phen)2]·(H2O) (1), [Co(Hcnpi)(phen) (H2O)]n (2), and [Co0.5(H2cnpi)(H2O)2]·(H2O)·(dpe) (3) (H3cnpi = 5-(4-carboxy- 2-nitrophenoxy) isophthalic acid, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, dpe = 1,2-di(4-pyridyl)ethylene). These complexes have been characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, IR, and TGA. Complexes 1 and 2 exhibit Zn(II) mononuclear and Co(II) chain structure, whereas complex 3 shows Co(II) mononuclear structure. These low-dimensional complexes are cohered together by extensive weak interactions including of H-bonds and π-π interactions to complete their three-dimensional supramolecular stacking.Supplemental materials are available for this article.
