Abstract

The crystal structures of the complexes n-butyl acrylate/heptakis(2,6-di-O-methyl)-β-cyclodextrin and isobornyl acrylate/heptakis(2,6-di-O-methyl)-β-cyclodextrin were investigated by X-ray diffraction. These results were correlated to 1H NMR-spectra of complexes of statistically methylated β-cyclodextrin and the same acrylate monomers in solution. Nearly the same structures seem to exist in crystal and solution as well. The structural analysis supports interpretations of copolymerization behavior of these complexes in relation to uncomplexed monomers.
