Abstract

A new ultra wideband (UWB) antenna is proposed which entirely covers the frequency range of 3–12 GHz with an excessive band notching capability of frequencies in 5.15–5.825 GHz which is assigned to WLAN applications according to IEEE 802.11A standard. This antenna could then be used beside any ultra wideband system to avoid unwanted intrusions to widely used wireless networks and communications. This band notching characteristic will be achived by using a crescent patch. The voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR), gain, radiation pattern, and effect of the crescent dimensions on the antenna parameters are studied.
