Abstract

Milwaukee wastewater operations use multiple biosolids options where 98% of the biosolids are recycled. This paper describes the operational management of Milwaukee's biosolids options. The intent is to share management facts and ideas that work in Milwaukee. These facts and experiences may assist others in evaluating solids options or management practices. Milwaukee's options were developed under the public operation of Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District and refined under private contract operations by United Water. In 1999 the Milwaukee biosolids program won EPA's 1999 National First Place Biosolids Excellence Award for Large Operations.
