Abstract

Removal credits are a regulatory mechanism that allows for the adjustment of categorical pretreatment standards to reflect treatment received at the POTW. American Bottoms Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility obtained removal credit authority from USEPA of 57% for cadmium and 83% for zinc, allowing industrial categorical pretreatment discharge limits to be increased approximately two-fold for cadmium and approximately seven-fold for zinc. A final filtration step in the industry's pretreatment process could be eliminated.
