Abstract

SummaryAn automated method is introduced for deriving the governing dynamic equations of electric power systems using the Lagrangian formulation. A main advantage of using the Lagrangian formulation to model the system dynamics is that this framework has been shown to be useful for passivity‐based control. The automation of the modeling is valuable because for interconnected power systems, it is very complex to derive by hand. The automated method is demonstrated on an example interconnected power system. Finally, the differential equations derived in the stationary three‐phase reference frame for this example are transformed to the rotating two‐phase reference frame, and simulations in the different reference frames are shown and analyzed.
