Abstract
As GPs we are bombarded with guidelines, targets and service frameworks concerning diabetes, and now the new General Medical Services (GMS) contract awards up to 99 points for the management of diabetes, reflecting the seriousness which the government now accords this condition. In this section a ten-point plan is outlined that unifies all the existing guidelines and strategies and meets the requirements of the GMS contract. This will help GPs to pick their way through the morass of information on this subject and to improve the management of diabetes in their practice.
