Abstract
Mobile services are changing the life of billions of people around the world. There are now approximately 6.8 billion active mobile connections worldwide, which represents over 3.2 billion individual subscribers. The world is experiencing a mobile revolution that will transform people’s lives. But while the progress to date has been amazing, people are just starting to realise their mobile future. A service that will play a key role in the mobile future, and a key contributor to the connected economy, is near field communication (NFC). NFC will facilitate a wide range of new applications for consumers such as mobile ticketing to board public transport, the exchange of information and content, control of access to cars, home, hotels, offices and car parks, and much more. This is just the tip of the iceberg; the possibility for innovation is endless.
