Abstract

Most family members entering therapy have not seriously considered the idea that there may be disadvantages to resolving their problem, and therapists who present ideas regarding potential disadvantages of problem resolution may need to elaborate them in a variety of ways before the ideas and accompanying implications are fully understood. In this paper an edited therapy transcript of a single case is used to illustrate the process of promoting an extended conversation about disadvantages of problem resolution in therapy.
