Abstract
The interdisciplinary approach of gastroenterologists and surgeonsin the treatment of patients with gastro-oesophagealreflux disease is not adequately developed so far. When viewingtypical clinical situations (conventional standard therapy, patient asking for antireflux surgery, therapeutic failures, patientswith non-acid reflux, effects of antireflux therapy onmalignant transformation in Barrett's oesophagus) it could bedemonstrated that both disciplines contribute substantially toan optimal quality of treatment of reflux disease. Thus, a closercooperation should be encouraged.
