Abstract

In this scientific research we want to present the influence of the gouging process on the basic material and the characterization of the surfaces obtained by different gouging processes. During the experimental researches we used as basic material a structural steel with low level of carbon. The gouging procedures used during the experiment are: arc-air (ArcAirGouging), coated electrode (ManualMetalArcGouging), manual with plasma (PlasmaManualGouging) and mechanized with plasma (Plasma Mechanized Gouging). These processes are classified by a number of processes according to the European standard EN ISO 4063:2009. After the gouging process was finished we measured the roughness of the surfaces. During the gouging process was measured the micro particles concentration with MicroDust 880mm detector. The results obtained after the gouging operation were analyzed with a scanning electronic microscope in order to characterize the grooves’ surfaces. To characterize the gouged surfaces we used a scanning electronic microscope type VegaTescan LMH II, which is equipped with a dispersive X-ray analysis system.
