Abstract

ABSTRACTUsing pure pig skin epidermis, we investigated the biochemical nature of adenosine deaminase, Two different (large and small) forms of adenosine deaminase were separated by a gel filtration technique using Sephadex G‐150 column chromatography. The molecular weight of the large form was 300,000 to 350,000 and that of the small form was 30,000 to 40,000.The kinetics of the two enzymes were quite similar, in terms of Km values for adenosine, substrate specificity, pH optima, temperature sensitivity, isoelectric points, and inhibition by coformycin, a tight‐binding inhibitor of adenosine deaminase.
