Abstract
This paper explores the concept of sustainability and its boundaries, via data collected during a series of ‘Future is Due’ workshops in several different settings. The workshops draw on current sustainability practices led by universities in Europe and Latin America. University-led initiatives existing in Wales, United Kingdom, and in Brazil, South America, are discussed and show how Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) can trigger various types of approaches to this agenda. The case studies provide inspiration, instigating participants to consider sustainability as something less abstract and discuss real possible action. The complexity of defining sustainability terminology proved apparent. Results also highlighted different perceptions of relevance regarding the presented projects. Conclusions pointed to future collaboration and exchange of ideas between different international settings being fundamental for approaching sustainability.
