Abstract

Power (2003) describes genocide as "the problem from hell." The genocide that swept over Rwanda left no sector of society intouched. This paper will provide a theoretical examination of history and memory represented in two virtual memorials created in response to the 1994 Rwandan Genocide by Chilean artist, Alfredo Jaar and Ghanaian artist, Kofi Setordji . A conceptual framework for looking at societal issues like genocide through the visual arts, in arts education contexts will be shared as a bridge between theory and practice.
