Abstract

It is analyzed how dynamic Jahn-Teller coupling of an $\chem{O^-}$hole with the surrounding lattice in oxide perovskites affects theelectron paramagnetic resonance of shallow $\chem{O^-}$ defects. The predicted unusual resonance parameters are seen to berealized by experimentally identified $\chem{O^-}$ defects in$\chem{KTaO_3}$. These centers thus manifest the properties of dynamicJahn-Teller hole polarons in oxide perovskites. By varying thestrength of the Jahn-Teller coupling, a continuous transition tothe static Jahn-Teller case is modelled. The latter situationdescribes the properties of $\chem{O^-}$ polarons identifiedpreviously in other oxide perovskites.
