Abstract

We introduce a hard-core lattice-gas model on generalized Bethelattices and investigate its compaction behavior analytically and numerically. If compactified slowly, the system undergoesa first-order crystallization transition. If compactified muchfaster, the system stays in a meta-stable liquid state andundergoes a glass transition under further compaction. We showthat this behavior is induced by geometrical frustration whichappears due to the existence of short loops in the generalizedBethe lattices. We also compare our results to numericalsimulations of a three-dimensional analog of the model.
