另外，值得注意是，经济大国日本已投资1.7亿美元在1993年动工兴建日本军用喷气发动机高空台。据报道，此项建设项目是防卫厅自主开发喷气发动机构想的中心项目，用于分析发动机在高空的性能，如推重比和耗油率等。该高空台占地10公顷，模拟高度为23000千米。预计1999年建成。
