Abstract

The euphoria about the end of the cold war did not last very long-as soon as Russia emerged from the post-Soviet chaos, relations with the United States took a turn for the worse and became embroiled in numerous conflicts.Nevertheless, mutual interests between the two countries should, in time, overshadow the current conflicts. One can expect that the weight of common dangers and problems, as well as a history richer in cooperation than in direct conflicts, will, in the future, overcome great power rivalries detrimental to both sides.
