Abstract
Since about thirty years it is known that Oxygen and other α-elements are overabundant in metal-poor stars. In this talk I briefly review the historical and theoretical background, discuss reliability of present abundance determinations for O, and finally comment about the implications relevant to galactic chemical evolution.
