Brief introduction

The "International Journal of Cognitive Linguistics" (IJCL) is a peer-reviewed journal of high-quality research of a theoretical and/or empirical/experimental nature, focusing on the interface between language and cognition. IJCL adopts an interdisciplinary, comparative, multi-methodological approach to the study of language in the general cognitive perspective, as well as theory-based practical applications. It is open to research from the full range of subject disciplines, theoretical backgrounds, and analytical frameworks that inform the language and cognitive sciences. IJCL aims to strike a balance between: • Articles authored by native English speakers and non-native speakers; • Fundamental and applied research; • Studies focusing on well-studied languages, especially English, and studies of other languages of the world; • Research by well-established scholars and early career scholars; • Full-length articles, brief communications, and abridged PhD dissertations of article length. IJCL publishes articles on a wide range of topics, including: • Original research in the broad area of language and cognition; • Further exploration of existing topics in language and cognition; • Explorations of practical and applied implications of new or existing research; • Interdisciplinary methods of investigation in the language and cognitive sciences; • Cognitive, social, and functional approaches to language and linguistics; • Theories and models of language in the mind; • Gesture and language in embodied communication; • Psycholinguistic processing; • Neurolinguistics; • Origins and evolution of language and mind; • Human linguistic and cognitive development; • Symbolic cognition; • The nature of semantic and conceptual representation; • Language, creativity and imagination; • Metaphor and figurative language and thought; • Conceptual blending; • Language, cognition, and behavior; • The cognitive dimension of linguistic socialization; • The intersection of language, thought, and culture; • Discourse and embodied practice; • Language as a window into cognitive processes; • The relationship between linguistic structure and cognitive processes; • Linguistic influences on thought in different cultures.
