Brief introduction

Real estate and construction issues are constantly changing in the global economy, and the dynamic nature of these issues accelerates the rate at which changes take place. This has far-reaching implications for stakeholders (practitioners, academics and policy makers) in the real estate and construction sectors. There is, therefore, the need for cutting-edge research that will continuously identify, monitor, and evaluate the dynamics of these changes in order to assist stakeholders with improving upon policy formulation, teaching and learning. Issues in real estate and construction are interconnected, though they are often treated as if they are not. Thus, even though there is a need for cutting edge research, it is important that research is conducted in an integrated fashion. The aim of the Journal of International Real Estate and Construction Studies (JIRECS) is, therefore, to provide an international forum for the integration of research in these interrelated disciplines. It is a scholarly journal that seeks to engender the exchange of views, innovative ideas, and findings from original empirical research (conducted using appropriate research approaches like the quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methodologies), as well as theoretical research (critical and analytical reviews of literature, theories, etc.) in real estate and construction. As an international journal, it brings perspectives in these interrelated disciplines from both the developing and developed world. To ensure that publications in JIRECS are robust, all papers are fully-blind peer reviewed. Contributions are varied, which include regular articles, commentaries on topical issues, abstracts of doctoral theses, and book reviews. The journal publishes two issues per year. JIRECS covers all facets of real estate and construction, and the following list is only indicative: construction and real estate innovation (including IT); real estate and construction finance; construction and real estate economics; land and construction dispute resolution; real estate and facilities management; construction project management; real estate valuation/appraisal; lean construction; estimating and tendering; supply chain management; project performance; property rights; housing; information management; urban planning; architecture; delay analysis in construction projects; commercial management; health and safety; procurement; and construction and real estate law. The intended key audience of JIRECS includes the following: • Practitioners/professionals in all facets of real estate and construction – for example, real estate and construction finance analysts, real estate investment analysts, real estate valuers/appraisers, real estate and construction economists, real estate and property managers, housing markets specialists/analysts, construction project managers, dispute resolution professionals, and real estate developers or contractors; • Real estate and construction academics and students; • Urban planners and architects; and • Government policy makers.
