Abstract

Purpose ‐ This paper looks at how Six Sigma was used at Renishaw plc to address quality issues. Design/methodology/approach ‐ The article analyses the problems at Renishaw plc and looks at how a Six Sigma program was implemented. Findings ‐ Despite a culture wary of any approach that may hinder the innovation that is driving the company's success, the Six Sigma program at Renishaw, which has been supported by Smallpeice Enterprises, has taken root and is now starting to deliver significant business benefits. Originality/value ‐ In today's industrial climate Renishaw plc needs to find and use any approach that will help it work smarter, and appropriately applying the Six Sigma approach and toolset is ‐ as a growing number in the company have already found ‐ a good way for working smarter.
