Abstract

Catinathrips is a new genus proposed for C. kainos (type-species) and Taeniothrips vaccinophilus Hood. These species differ from other thripines by the combination of 2-segmented maxillary palpi, posteromarginal plates on abdominal segments, single pair of postero-marginal pronotal setae, and lack of ocellar seta pair I. The new species has comparatively short posteroangular setae and long terminal setae; T. vaccinophilus has posteroangulars ⅔ as long as its terminals. Both species infest Vaccininm species, in company with Frankliniella vaccinii Morgan. A possible third species of Catinathrips infests hickory. Males are unknown.
