Abstract
The frequencies of the partials occurring in the sound spectrum of a bell can be measured or calculated with the aid of the Finite Element Method from the bell profile. They make up the spectral sound. It is shown that residual tones originate from the sub-harmonics of these partials, forming a residual sound. The structure of the sound of the bell is described from the impact onwards with a beat resulting from these two sounds. The beat structure diagrams of three different bell profiles are discussed. They allow forecasts on the purity of the sound.
