Abstract
The United States Environmental Protection Agency is working to improve all aspects of the environment, as are other agencies around the globe. The use of more environmental friendly products will help to control the increasing issues related to the health of our planet. Reduced consumption of natural resources and use of processes that are environmentally friendly will, reduce the need for landfills, improve air and water quality, and fight pollution and global warming. Improved environment control will be accomplished by a combination of legislation and economics. Demand for low cost high quality products, often conflict with the need for improved environmental control, therefore a balance is required. The use of injection moulding simulation and process optimisation products have been shown to reduce material consumption, reduce production scrap, assist in recycling existing materials, create better quality products that have a prolonged life and reduce energy consumption required during the manufacturing process. This paper will provide an overview of aspects where injection moulding simulation has helped to design environmentally friendly products.
