Abstract
Absolute laser distance interferometry, as a means of precise linear measurement, may be used particularly, in geodetic metrology for establishing interference base-lines. The main principles of absolute interferometric distance measurement are described and different versions of the technique are reviewed. Experimental results in this field are discussed and information concerning interferometers under development is given.
