Abstract

The issue of redundancy has not been well explored in the social work curriculum. The Curriculum Policy Statement requires redundancy in the form of infusion of material across content areas and addresses redundancy vertically between levels of education and year of program. Further, redundancy in the form of repetition with the purpose of reinforcement is desirable as an educational strategy. The study on which this paper reports used MSW students to track instances of redundancy during their course of study and to distinguish between helpful and unhelpful redundancy. The paper describes the process of the study, student understanding of and perceptions of redundancy, and student perceptions of specific instances of redundancy.
