Abstract

In this letter, simple realizations of the optical antimatter behavior and the negative transmission time are shown. We study the motion of a Gaussian wave packet ΨE through an optical structure of right/left/right-handed media, with planar interfaces. We show that the motion of the wave packet occurs as if a region, twice the thickness of the left-handed slab, did not exist. Following the Gaussian wave packet ΨE motion, we observe the appearance of an image packet inside the left-handed slab, and of an early transmitted Gaussian wave packet. We discuss the reshaping argument and the apparent violation of the causality principle, the formation of the image packet and the emergence of the transmitted wave packet.
