Abstract

The genus and the type species Raxa collaris Distant are redescribed. A new species R. nishidai and its 2nd and 4th instars are described. Raxa is compared with 4 similar genera, Melamphaus Stål, Probergrothius Kirkaldy, Roscius Stål, and Antilochus Stål; Raxa appears to be most closely related to the last. R. collaris occurs in Vietnam and Laos, and R. nishidai has been collected only from Indonesia. R. nishidai is predacious, particularly upon the pyrrhocorid Melamphaus faber (F.); it is not known if R. collaris is also predacious. Predation in the Pyrrhocoridae is discussed briefly.
