Abstract

This note has been prompted by the articles of Messrs. Atkinson and Dixon (E.S.R., xiv, 110, 364–377; xv, 111, 6–15; and xv, 114, 155–161). It is stimulating to consider the suggested variations of the original method and, if I may, I should like to comment on some of these.
