Abstract
Several recent UK government initiatives are set to have an impact on child and adolescent mental health services. As a result new primary mental health worker and similar posts are being established. These jobs are proving attractive to social workers seeking to develop their special interest in child and adolescent mental health. This article sets out some of the problems and prospects for social workers undertaking them seeking to develop a modern psycho‐social practice using psychodynamic skills.
