Abstract
Learner-centred Education (LCE) and Outcomes-based Education (OBE) relies heavily on specific methods and approaches which differ from the traditional Teacher-centred Education philosophy. This paper uses as central reference the work of Elliot Eisner as presented in ‘Arts and the Creation of Mind’ and strives to apply it in teacher education and learning processes in the Arts.The following topics will be briefly addressed: -There can be more than one answer to a question;- The relationship between form and content;- The importance of imagination and the sensibilities;-The importance of intrinsic satisfaction;- Understanding is secured by more than literal language and quantification;- The importance of being flexibly purposive in the course of one’s work.When activities in fields, traditionally seen as academic subjects, are pursued for their aesthetic properties, these fields are starting to be treated as potential art forms, and in so doing, the arts can become a model for education.
