Abstract

The article gives an overview of recent changes in calculus education at Chinese colleges and universities. These changes have occurred in parallel with the development of CAI technology and software. The changes of most significance in the country are reflected in the contents of calculus textbooks and teaching methods. The wide application of mathematical CAI software has greatly facilitated mathematical experimentation and the offering of laboratory based mathematical courses, which brings prospects for the reform of calculus education. With the intent of stimulating inquiry into the topic of the reform of calculus education, we further look at ideas that have been tried in the author's own teaching practice and particularly in implementing laboratory experiments of calculus.
