Abstract

Este trabajo aborda el tema de las ideas de los padres sobre el desarrollo y la educación de los niños durante el proceso de transición a la paternidad. Los resultados del estudio longitudinal realizado mostraron que en dicha transición existe una importante estabilidad en este tipo de ideas antes y después del nacimiento del niño. Dicha estabilidad es más marcada entre los sujetos que mostraban desde el principio sistemas de ideas más definidas, coherentes y bien articuladas. Por el contrario, los hombres y mujeres con ideas más indefinidas al principio del proceso fueron los que más cambio experimentaron. Junto a la descripción de los cambios, se discuten los factores que pueden influir sobre ellos.This paper deals with the subject of parents' ideas on children's development and education during the transition to parenthood. The results of the present longitudinal study showed that overall there is a significant stability in parents' ideas before and after the infant's birth. This stability was more pronounced among subjects who possessed a set of well-defined, coherent and articulated ideas from the beginning. On the other hand, men and women with less well-defined ideas faced with parenthood tended to experience the most change during this process. In addition to describing the nature of changes taking place, we discuss factors that can influence these changes.
