Bacterial iron homeostasis is often regulated by regulators of the Fur family, including in Bacillus subtilis both Fur (left; modeled on PDB 3MWM) and PerR. Resistance to iron (yellow) overload is conferred primarily by induction of a newly assigned iron efflux P1B‐4‐type ATPase, PfeT (top, represented by a P1B‐type ATPase from L. pneumophila PDB 4BBJ) with a secondary contribution from the Fe sequestration protein MrgA (right; represented by E. coli Dps; PDB 1DPS).
